Google Business Profile optimization
Google Business Profile optimization for existing profiles
Filling out an existing Google Business Profile properly so it shows up for more local searches.
What this is
Most profiles were set up years ago in twenty minutes and never touched again. The categories are approximate, half the services are missing, the photos are from before the van was replaced, and nobody has looked at the hours since a holiday two years ago.
This is a one-time overhaul of a profile that already exists, which is a different job from creating one because everything here carries the risk of disturbing something that currently works.
What you get
What gets reviewed and fixed
-
01
Categories
Whether the primary category is the right one and which secondary categories are missing. This is where the largest gains usually are, and also the change that most needs care.
-
02
Services and descriptions
Every service you offer listed individually, matching your website. Most profiles list two or three of a dozen.
-
03
Service area
Whether it reflects where you actually work now rather than where you worked when the profile was made.
-
04
Photographs
Current work, sensible quantity, and the old ones that no longer represent you removed.
-
05
Attributes and details
The checkboxes that feed filtered searches, which are easy to complete and almost always left half done.
-
06
Unwanted edits
Checking whether anyone else has suggested changes to your listing, because Google accepts some of them automatically and you are not notified in a way anyone notices.
Suspension risk, which is the real difference here
Editing a live profile is not risk-free. Changing the business name, the address or the category all at once, or making a series of edits in quick succession, can push a listing into review. A suspended profile disappears from Maps entirely while you appeal, which can take weeks.
So the work is sequenced. Highest-value changes first, spaced out, with the riskiest left until the safe ones have settled. Nothing that would make the name anything other than your real trading name, which is the most common self-inflicted suspension there is.
This caution is the main thing separating an overhaul from a setup, and it is why the two are priced and planned differently.
What it costs
Quoted after a free consult, because what it takes depends entirely on what you already have. Book a call, I will tell you what is involved, and you get a number before anything starts. Website plan details are on the pricing page.
A one-time overhaul is quoted after looking at the current profile, which can be done from outside before anything is agreed.
How this differs
Setup creates a profile that does not exist. This assesses and repairs one that does, and the constraint is not disturbing what currently works.
Management is the recurring monthly commitment afterwards. Optimization is a project with an end date.
Questions
What people ask
Will changing my categories hurt my rankings?
It can move them in either direction, which is why it is the change made most deliberately. A wrong primary category is worth correcting; changing a correct one to chase a term is usually a mistake.
Could this get my profile suspended?
Careless editing can. That is precisely why the work is sequenced and spaced rather than done in one sitting. The riskiest edits are the ones people make casually because the interface makes them look trivial.
How do I know if my profile needs this?
Open it and count your listed services against what you actually do. If the profile lists three and you offer ten, there is your answer.
Is this a one-off?
Yes. Keeping it current afterwards is management, and plenty of owners handle that themselves once the profile is in good shape.
