Google Business Profile training: run it yourself

Learning to run your own Google Business Profile properly, for owners and staff.

What this is

Nearly everything that keeps a profile working is something you can do yourself in a few minutes a week. Posting, replying to reviews, adding photos, keeping services current.

What stops most owners is not difficulty. It is not knowing which parts matter and which changes are risky.

What you get

What gets covered

  • 01

    The parts that matter

Categories, services, service area and photographs. Most of your ranking comes from a handful of fields, and knowing which ones lets you ignore the rest with confidence.

  • 02

Posting without it becoming a chore

What is worth posting, how often, and how to do it from a phone between jobs. A routine that needs a desk will not survive a busy week.

  • 03

    Replying to reviews

Including the negative ones, where the reply is written for the next reader rather than the reviewer. That principle does most of the work.

  • 04

    Adding services and photos

The mechanics, and how to keep the profile consistent with your website so the two do not contradict each other.

  • 05

    What triggers a suspension

Arguably the most valuable part. Keyword-stuffing the business name, an address configured wrongly, a burst of edits in one sitting. A suspended profile disappears from Maps while you appeal.

  • 06

    What to ignore

The features that exist but do not repay the time, so you spend your ten minutes a week on the parts that pay.

What it costs

Quoted after a free consult, because what it takes depends entirely on what you already have. Book a call, I will tell you what is involved, and you get a number before anything starts. Website plan details are on the pricing page.

Quoted as a one-off. What it involves depends on whether the profile needs fixing first, since training on a broken profile is the wrong order.

How this differs

Same subject, opposite delivery to profile management, where I do it every month. Here you do it and I make sure you do not get suspended doing it.

For a lot of businesses this is the better value of the two. Ten minutes a week from the owner beats a retainer, and the owner has the photographs anyway.

Questions

What people ask

Who should attend, me or my staff?

Whoever will actually do it week to week. Training the owner when the office manager does the posting is a common and expensive mistake.

What if my profile needs fixing first?

Then that comes first, either as optimization or as part of the session. Learning to maintain a profile with the wrong primary category teaches you to maintain the wrong thing.

Will I get something to refer back to?

Yes. Nobody retains a session like this from listening alone, and the suspension triggers in particular are worth having written down.

What if I get stuck later?

Ask. A short question afterwards is not something I would bill for, and I would rather you asked than guessed at something that risks the listing.
