Website strategy session
A website strategy session before you build
A working session to plan your pages, services and site structure before you build or rebuild.
What this is
Most website projects go wrong before anyone designs anything, because nobody decided what pages should exist and what each one is for. The result is a site that covers everything vaguely and nothing convincingly.
This is the session that happens first, and it produces a plan rather than a picture.
What you get
What gets decided
-
01
What pages exist
Driven by what you sell and what people search for, rather than by what other sites in your trade happen to have.
-
02
What each page is for
One page, one purpose, one search it is trying to win. The most common structural fault is one page trying to do the job of three.
-
03
Which services deserve their own page
Not all of them do. A service you barely offer and would rather not sell does not need a page you then have to keep honest.
-
04
Where the towns fit
Whether you need location pages, and for which towns. That comes with a limit, set out under service area page design.
-
05
How pages link to each other
Which pages are the important ones and how everything else points at them. This decides what search engines think your site is mainly about.
-
06
What you are not building
Frequently the most useful output. The pages that would exist because websites usually have them and that nobody would ever read.
What it costs
Quoted after a free consult, because what it takes depends entirely on what you already have. Book a call, I will tell you what is involved, and you get a number before anything starts. Website plan details are on the pricing page.
Free as part of a build with me. Quoted separately when you want the plan and intend to take it elsewhere, which is a perfectly reasonable thing to want.
How this differs
One session, one subject: the structure of a specific site. Marketing strategy is broader and does not produce a page plan.
It is also not UX and UI design, which is about how a page works once you know it should exist. This decides which pages exist at all.
On a build I am doing, this planning is part of the project and not a separate purchase. It is worth buying on its own when you are building with somebody else, or deciding whether to build at all.
Questions
What people ask
Is this different from the free consult?
The consult is a conversation about whether we are a fit and what you need. This is a working session that produces a page-by-page plan, which takes real preparation. If your question is answered by the consult, I will say so rather than selling you a session.
What do I walk away with?
A written plan of the pages, what each is for, what it targets, and how they link together. Enough for anyone to build from.
Can I take the plan to another developer?
Yes, and it is written so that you can. That is the point of buying it separately.
Do I need this if my site already exists?
Sometimes. A site that grew page by page over years usually has structural problems that no amount of rewriting fixes. If that is what you have, this is the session that finds it.
Plan it before you build it
Tell me what is going on and I will tell you whether this is what you actually need. No pitch deck and no pressure.
