SEO audit

SEO audits for small businesses

A plain-English review of what is holding your site back, with a prioritised fix list.

What this is

An audit answers one question: why is this site not doing better. It looks at the technical foundation, the content, and the local signals, and comes back with what is wrong and what order to fix it in.

The useful part is the ordering. Most audits produce a list of everything that could be improved, which is overwhelming and therefore ignored. What you need is the three things that matter and permission to ignore the rest for now.

What you get

What gets examined

  • 01

Whether Google can read the site

Indexing, crawl errors, duplicate pages, redirects that go nowhere. If pages are not in the index, nothing else on the list matters yet. Fixing these is technical SEO.

  • 02

What each page is actually targeting

Titles, headings and content, and whether any two pages are competing for the same search. Sites that grew organically almost always have pages fighting each other without anyone realising.

  • 03

    Content gaps

Services you offer with no page, questions customers ask with no answer, and towns you work in that the site never mentions.

  • 04

    Local signals

Your Google Business Profile, whether your name and phone number match everywhere they appear, and what your reviews look like next to the businesses outranking you.

  • 05

    Speed on a phone

Measured on mobile, because that is where your visitors are. Remedial work is website speed optimization.

What you get at the end

A prioritised list of findings, written so you can read it without a glossary, and a walkthrough where you can ask what any of it means.

Each item says what is wrong, why it matters, and roughly what fixing it involves. Crucially it also says which items are worth doing now and which are fine to leave, because an audit that treats every finding as urgent is not advice, it is a list.

You can take the list to anyone. It is not written to make the fixes sound like something only I can do.

What it costs

Quoted after a free consult, because what it takes depends entirely on what you already have. Book a call, I will tell you what is involved, and you get a number before anything starts. Website plan details are on the pricing page.

A short look at your site is part of the free consult. A full audit is a separate piece of paid work, and I will tell you on the call whether you actually need one or whether the free look already answered it.

How this differs

An audit looks inward at your own site and answers "what is broken here". Competitor analysis looks outward at one named rival and answers "why are they above me". They are often bought together and they are genuinely different pieces of work.

An AI search visibility audit is the same diagnostic shape aimed at an entirely different surface: what AI assistants say when asked about your industry in your area.

Questions

What people ask

Is the audit free?

The consult is free and includes an honest first look. A full audit is paid work, because it takes real time. If the free look finds something obvious, I will just tell you rather than charging you to hear it.

Do you fix what you find?

I can, and you are under no obligation. The report is written so another developer could work from it, which is deliberate.

How many problems does a typical site have?

More than the owner expects and fewer that matter than the list suggests. Most small business sites have a handful of genuine issues and a long tail of things that are technically true and practically irrelevant.

What do you use to find this?

Search Console data where you have it, crawling the site directly, and manual review. The tools find the mechanical problems; the judgement about what matters is the part you are paying for.

Find out what is actually wrong

Tell me what is going on and I will tell you whether this is what you actually need. No pitch deck and no pressure.
